Where are your gloves produced?
Handsome is designed in Stockholm and sustainably produced in Hungary. Our products are manufactured by a family owned glove atelier located in the picturesque Hungarian town Pécs, also known as the capital of glove making on the European continent. The atelier provides a great work environment for over 20 craftsmen and woman, many of whom have worked in the trade for decades. The Handsome team has visited the atelier in Pécs and met with the craftsmen and woman. We can thereby ensure that the working conditions in the factory are very high, and beyond satisfactory.
What materials do you use?
We only work with the finest Italian lamb nappa leather from Napels. The regions salty air is particularly favourable for drying leather since it makes it extra soft. The leather is always purchased as a by-product from the meat industry.
Our high quality linings are also produced in Italy and contain a blend of 50% natural cashmere and 50% wool. That combination makes the lining particularly soft and keeps the hands extra warm during cold winter days.
We guarantee a sustainable leather and linings production that are in line with strict EU regulations (REACH).
Can gloves with the same colour and model have small differences?
Yes they can, but it’s rare that you’ll notice any difference at all. However, it’s important to mention that each glove are cut and sewn by hand by seasoned craftsmen and woman, which makes each glove pair unique. Leather is also a natural product and each piece of natural leather is different. Small irregularities are therefore a sign of quality.
How do you work with sustainability?
Sustainability and provenance have from the beginning been a key part of Handsome Stockholm. Our sustainability strategy is based on two main pillars:
1) Sustainable Production & Materials: The Handsome Team has over a long period of time searched for the most qualitative and sustainable glove producer in Europe. In this selection process we have been extraordinary picky (annoyingly picky probably). We decided early that we would not launch until we had found what we were looking for. The most important factors when searching among glove manufacturers have been the leather quality, level of craftsmanship (production quality), level of sustainability in the tanning process and the working conditions in the factory. Following this careful evaluation, we ended up selecting a small, world-class, family owned atelier located in Pécs, Hungary. For more information about our materials, please see above. Since we know that we’ve done our homework, we also know that Handsome’s gloves are made by hand and by the most seasoned craftsmen and women in the world. We also know that our gloves, including the materials, are crafted under the most optimal conditions available. Handsome’s gloves hold extraordinary high quality and are therefore made to last. Also, by keeping our production in Europe, we can minimise transportations and thereby reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
2) Sustainable Consumption: Fast wear and tear is not for us. Our motto is - buy less and buy better. Therefore we have invested in our production process and in the materials that we use (see above). Therefore, when designing our gloves and selecting leather colours, we do so with the ambition that they never go out of style. Also, as the first company in the world, we offer to purchase one new glove if you happen to lose one of your Handsome gloves. Reducing consumption is a key aspect when working on preserving our beautiful planet.
